Coke Tooth Update

Well our tooth sitting in coke is looking very brown and ugly this week.  We have taken it out of the coke and tried to wash it clean again with water – as suggested by Lachlan a while ago.  Some of the coke did come off.  However the tooth is still really brown and when we were washing it in water some of the tooth was coming off.  We will keep it in water until next week and see if the colour improves any.

(sorry our camera shots of this are not very good – come in and have a look.)

Floating and Sinking

Chelsea brough some plastic ‘Butterfly People” for Morning meeting today.  She said that they sink in the bath.  We thought we would test this to see if it was true.  Lachlan said, “We will do an experiment.”  We remembered the other experiments we have done this year.  We do experiments when we want to find things out.  The butterflies did sink.  Lachlan said, ” We should try them up the other way.”  They still sank.  Mrs Gayle said, “We should put them in slowly.”  They still sank.  We put them on the table and after Morning Meeting Lachlan and Anders tried to float them on a plastic bag.  They gradually sank.  We got a foam tray and they floated – even if we turned it up the other way (“Like a mountain”) – Lachlan.  Persistance paid off and the boys got those butterflies to float.

Worm Farm

Our worms in our worm farm died during some extreme heat.  Lachlan’s Mum came into to Pre School today with some new worms and helped us set the farm back up again.  We use the worm farm to eat our scraps.  We know not to feed the worms bread (it will attract mice), meat (it will attract flies) or oranges (it stings their skin).  We can feed the worms other fruit and vegetable waste and paper.  Thanks Mel for coming in and giving us another lesson on living sustainably.

Babushka Dolls

Mrs Grant has a new drinker bottle that is decorated with patterns of Babushka Dolls.  Some of the children knew what they were.  We asked families to bring sets in if they had some at home.  We got lots of sets.  The children had fun matching, ordering and playing with the sets.  This helped us with developing  our mathematical language concepts.

Raffles

Cooper brought his raffle ticket book into  Pre School last week.  As everyone arrived he gave them a ticket.  We all looked at our numbers and discussed them.  Mrs Gayle made a quick prize.  Anders won.  He was so excited!

Lachlan made a prize (a shell wrapped up) for the next draw.  Hailee won.  Another very excited child.

Lachlan went home and made his own tickets to give to everyone the next day – along with another prize (a wrapped up stone).  He had made his own number system.  Great thinking Lachlan!  Ruby was the winner.  Another very excited child.  We are quickly learn our numerals.

It looks like this game will continue this week as Mrs Grant found three more raffle books at home!
