Hospital Corner

We had a pretend ‘accident’ at Pre School last week and the children rushed to take Amelia to ‘Hospital”. This week the children helped Mrs Gayle set up a Hospital Corner in the room for everyone to play with. Next week we will go to the hospital to see what a real hospital is like and to learn about Hand Washing techniques. Playing real life experiences (ie having an injection) helps children feel comfortable when they face these situations in real life. The hospital is an important part of the Manangatang Community and they love us to visit.

Mud Kitchen

The Robinvale Men’s Shed have made us a Mud Kitchen. It is fabulous and the children have loved playing in it this week. Mud is great for sensory awareness.

The Three Little Pigs

This term we are enjoying Fairy Tales. The first one we have explored is “The Three Little Pigs”. We have read the story, dressed up and used the felt board to retell the story. Next week we will each do an individual Story Retell for Mrs Grant and she will record our stories.

Billy and Aidan gave the pre school a very large colouring poster for Christmas. We have mounted it on a board and this Term mrs Gayle and two children at a time have a go at colouring a small picture. Hopefully we will have it finished by the end of the year. Jack really loves doing this and shared his joy with Mum at pick up time.

It is very exciting when children take and idea and extend on it. When Lily saw the Picasso faces she said, “Can we paint our faces?” What a great idea. I asked the children if they had face paint at home to bring it along. Bella must have been excited about this and asked her family to buy some face paint for Pre School (I know this because I saw Grandma in the supermarket!)

I wanted the children to start thinking more deeply about their art – so I asked them to draw a plan of how they wanted their faces painted.

Marney and Sara came in and helped bring the plans to life. Well done Mum’s!

We have left the face paints out for the children to do themselves and Mrs gayle in the mirror!

We are exploring Picasso and his cubism style with self portraits this term. The children think some of his work is very funny – but they have embraced the style. We started off with self portrait with blackline drawing and acrylic paints.

Then we took photos of our faces and all our features (ie nose, eyes, mouth and ears) Mrs Grant Photoshopped our faces with blocks of colour. We cut out our features and pasted them on. Mrs Grant mounted them on black. They make a great display.

Mrs Gayle found a caterpillar on the footpath near her house. She gave it to Maddi to look after. Maddi brought it to Pre School. It was big and fat and green. We put it in our Fairy Garden. During the holidays it turned into a cocoon. We are eagarly waiting for it to turn into a butterfly. The children are learning to be very careful with it. Consideration for other creatures is an important lesson for us all.
