Today was ‘Odd Socks Day’.
We all looked funny in our odd socks. We talked about what else other than socks came in pairs. We thought of shoes, eyes, hands, feet, legs, skis, ears, crutches, rollerskates, gloves and arms.
As adults you will also know that in the English language we often refer to single items as pairs. eg. sunglasses, pants, trousers, shorts, jeans, binoculars, goggles, scissors, tongs.
Also confusing would be a pair of headphones or handcuffs.
Next time you are folding the washing ask the children to help you pair up the socks so that they match. Have fun with ‘pairs’ at home!
