We have lots of old kitchen utensils that we like to use in the sand pit – but this week they formed a band. The children lined the bowls, cake tins and saucepans up on the edge of the sand pit and created their own drums.
We noticed the children listening to the different sounds between the materials and the shapes.
We noticed children making patterns that repeated to create their own ‘music’.
We noticed children one-to-one matching as they made a beat.
We noticed children arranging their instruments so that they could reach them all without having to move their ‘saucepan’ seats.
We noticed the children changing their beating sticks to create different sounds.
We noticed children working together and having fun.
