Carols in the Community

This week we went down to the Nursing Home to hear a band from Robinvale play Christmas Carols and Golden Oldies to the residents.  We even knew some of the Golden Oldies!  The children really enjoyed the event and we could tell that the residents enjoyed seeing the children again.  This was our third visit for the year and we have one last visit next week to do a Christmas Play.

Photos to come.

Weckmann and Lanterns

Apart from learning the German language – we have also been learning about customs and traditions.

Last week we made Weckmann.  Weckmann is sweet leavened dough in the shape of a man.  They are usually available around Saint Nicholas Day (December 6th).  The pastry often has raisins and a clay pipe inserted.  We used both.

This week we made lanterns.  The children will be able to parade around with their lanterns next week just like the children in Germany.

Thank you Monika for organising our German lessons and teaching us about the special cultural events.  This has been a great addition to our Pre School program for 2014.
