We would like to wish all our families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Have a wonderful Summer break. All the best to the children who are going to school for the first time next year – an exciting year awaits! To the Plant, Oliver and Barry families who have just finished your years of fun at Pre School- thank you for all your support over a long time. Pre School relies on families and the wider community to support and champion for the cause of Early Childhood Education, and you have all contributed to our program in so many varied ways. It is really appreciated. Finally, Thank you for all the Christmas Wishes to Teachers – we are looking forward to a great year in 2017.

Merrilyn, Gayle and Jayne

Aidan loves to dress up and play pretend. He requested one more ‘dress up day’ before the end of the year. We made our last day a dress up day. The children all came dressed up and they played pretend games related to their costumes.

Erin, the Dietician from Robinvale and district health, came to visit on Tuesday. She showed us the five food groups and talked about ‘every day’ foods and ‘sometimes’ foods. Then we got our lunch boxes and sorted our food into the food groups to see if we were having a balanced diet. Erin left us with some colouring sheets of vegetable people – which we enjoyed colouring.

Every year we collect samples of the children’s work and put into a portfolio for them to share with their family and friends. The children get to take them home at the end of each term and then keep them at the end of the year. After our concert we presented the children’s completed portfolios to them. All that effort was rewarded when we saw the children excitedly sharing their portfolio’s with family and friends. They were so proud.

Performing in front of the parents and friends is very exciting. The children did three plays: The Three Little Pigs, The Three Billy Goats Guff and Jack and the Beanstalk. Then we all shared a lovely lunch. The rain the night before meant that all the Dad’s could come as well. How the children’s confidence has grown since they started Pre School.

What to do on a hot day. Fill the disk with water and shampoo for a bubble bath! The children were problem solving when they put wooden blocks under the disk to keep it stable and full of water. Then we put water and shampoo and water on the gym mats and made a ‘slip ‘n slide’. Fun for all.

We wrote letters to Santa and we went to the post office to post them last week. Today we went back to the post office to see if he had replied – and he had!

We went to the hospital to visit the residents for Christmas. We did a rehearsal of our plays and sang some Christmas Carols. We presented the hospital with a ‘splatter painting’ done by the children. Connecting with the elderly in our community on a regular basis was a goal at the start of the year and the children have learnt a lot during these visits.
